During the PGCE we had lectures on different ways that we can present an engaging and interactive geography lesson. We were shown how a bee bot map of the world can be a great way to get the children to explore geography. The activity can be developed into a teacher supported activity or a game to test curriculum knowledge.
The map was in a grid format and children could place their bee bot in one of the squares and try and navigate to a country or a continent. Below is a video of me using the bee bot and trying to navigate to Australia: |
Using the bee bots in this way was a great way to transfer the use of ICT into geography and will definitely be something that I utilise within my own teaching practice. Even as an adult I was very engaged in using the bee bots in this way, each time trying to make a harder sequences. The activity also demonstrates the versatility that Bee bots have in teaching coding in the classroom.
