In order to gain an overview of the areas that I am confident and those which I am not, I took the preliminary computer audit. I have gone through to make it clear which areas require the most pressing action. Below are my results:
Section 1
In this section of the computing audit, I outlined programming language and computing devices as an area that I was not confident and subsequently need to target my learning. The reason for this is that I have no prior knowledge of language such as scratch or kodu, nor devices such as a crumble controller. I plan to use the language and devices during the course and top up my knowledge through self-study.
I have some brief experience of coding; however, this is certainly an area that I am keen to increase my understanding further throughout the course. Equally, with computer networks I think that I will research some basic types and their functions.
Section 2
The next section of the audit similarly highlighted areas of weakness, showing programs that I am unfamiliar with. My approach here will be to install accessible programs such as movie maker on my laptop, have a play around and hopefully familiarise myself with the processes. With programs like garage band that I am unable to easily obtain, I will make full use of any opportunity that I get to use the software.
Section 3
Twitter, QR codes, augmented reality and virtual reality all scored C as I have little to no experience with them. I have already created a twitter account since the audit and now feel familiar and comfortable with how it works. I intend to do independent research on the other platforms and hopefully get some first hand experience.
Section 4
This section did not present me with too many worries , however I highlighted video recording and voting / handheld devices as areas in which I wish to strengthen my skills. Again the main issue here was unfamiliarity. Therefore, over the course of the next few weeks I will be seeking to practise with this equipment in order to better my understanding. I have already thought of many ways that voting devices could be useful within a classroom and I'm keen to enhance my skills at using them as I think they can bring a lot to my lessons.
Section 5
I'm not too worried about the sections highlighted red as I am certain that I will have more and more ideas throughout the course and especially as I get further experience in a classroom environment. The lectures are introducing me to new technology, such as the bee bot and 'learn' by data harvest. This exposure is providing me a greater confidence in delivering technology within my lessons.
